The
Beulah Music Festival
Beulah is a tiny Breconshire village which lies on the old ford over the River Cammarch which runs into the River Irfon, itself a tributary of the more famous River Wye. It is a remote, hill-farming area although the village is served by the A483 Builth Wells-Llandovery Road and is a short drive from the famous single-track Heart of Wales railway line. It lies to east of Llanwrtyd Wells, which claims to be the smallest town in Britain and hosts famous events like an annual food festival, a bog-snorkelling competition and the man versus horse race.
Beulah is set in high hills dotted with the occasional farm and is magnificent walking and mountain-biking country. Although the village name dates from the 19th century, the settlement is ancient and a nearby network of local Roman roads and forts lie alongside more obviously Celtic remains. There are few more beautiful peaceful places in Britain.
Like many mid-Welsh villages, Beulah holds an annual village show in September and it is famous for its trotting races. The first Music Festival was held on the day after the show in 2004 and has been held every year since then. As the music programme has expanded it was decided in 2008 to move the Festival to October so that the events can spread over an entire weekend.
